David Dixon

Mr. David Lynn Dixon, 70, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2020.  He was born June 26, 1950 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late Hubert and Yeteve Dixon.  He had many nicknames, but to his family he was known as Papaw, Old Man, and Daddy Dave.

David attended Ball State University, where he completed his master’s degree in business and finance, played soccer, and was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity.  Also, while attending Ball State, he married the love of his life, Judy Kay Weinberger on March 10, 1973.

In 1982 the two of them moved to the south to plant their roots in Advance, NC and lived there for 18 years until moving to his final home in Pine Hall, NC.  David enjoyed many things that included: working with Judy on restoring their historic homes and working in their gardens, cooking and hanging out with his family, designing and building things, and sharing his faith with everyone.

David was a proud family man, always putting others before himself.  He was always willing to sacrifice to help others succeed.

According to his family, some of David’s best attributes were that he was a devout Christian who loved God, read the Bible, and prayed for others daily; was hardworking, always joyful and optimistic, and a great provider both spiritually and financially.  In addition, he was a great leader.  David volunteered on building committees for churches; held positions as branch manager for OEC, regional manager for Micro Matic, and project manager for DET; and started and/or contributed to many other companies.

David was also considered by many as a great teacher, he taught Sunday School, and youth groups; was a coach for little league baseball, soccer, basketball; and mentored his son and daughter-in-law,  John and Leanna on the startup and development for DET.

In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his brother, Mike.  He is survived by his loving wife, Judy; sister, Elaine; brother-in-law, Ron; five children: Elizabethe, Jennifer, Johnathan, Emily, and Steven; daughter-in-law, Leanna; and ten grandchildren: Devon, Hannah, Samuel, Lily, Isaac, Thomas, Evie, Faith, Rebekah, and Noah.

The grandchildren would like to share some of their special memories of their grandfather: Evie loved the hugs and his funny sounds and sayings, Noah enjoyed shooting guns on the farm with him, Faith loved his hugs and attendance at her soccer games, Thomas loved to hear his old stories, Samuel cherished deep life talks with him while eating nachos, Hannah enjoyed his singing and making waffles with him in the mornings, Lily treasured him attending her dance recitals and providing a giant hug afterwards, Isaac savored Sunday lunches after church while David would fall asleep “just resting his eyes”, Rebekah loved cooking and baking with him, and Devon appreciated the help with the science fair projects, driving the tractor, and fishing.

A graveside service will be conducted 10:30 AM Monday, July 27th at Forsyth Memorial Park with Pastor Mike Rakes officiating.  (Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall)
