Davey ""Dave"" Gray Hampton, 81, of Winston-Salem died on June 9, 2015 at home following the care of the attentive staff of Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born on January 5, 1934 to Samuel Clifton Hampton and Katherine Longworth Hampton in Forsyth County. Dave was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, serving as lector, and was also a member of The Knights of Columbus.
A graduate of North Carolina State University, the Thunderbird School of Global Management (formerly The American Institute of Foreign Trade), and Forsyth Technical Community College, Dave also attained the rank of Captain in the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps and became a Senior Member of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers.
During a career spanning nearly 40 years as an industrial engineer, manager, and educator, Dave worked for RJR Tobacco Co., Liggett & Myers, Sara Lee Corp., Wake Forest University, Forsyth County, and Forsyth Technical Community College.
Survivors include his loving wife, Elsa Acevedo Hampton; and son, Dave Gray Hampton, Jr. of Cambridge, Massachusetts. A visitation will be held Sunday, June 14 from 6-8pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. On Monday, June 15 at 2pm, Fr. Carl Zdancewicz will celebrate Dave's life at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, with inurnment to follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
