Darris Roger Moore, 82, of Kernersville, NC, died on December 7th, 2024, after a brief illness.He was born September 28, 1942, in Walton, Roane County, WV to parents Rev. Herbert Clark Moore and Dorothy G. (Hunt) Moore, the fifth of eight children.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Dreama L. (Humphreys) Moore, and two sons, Steven (Jean) of Charlotte, NC, and John (Stephanie) of Colfax, NC. He was blessed with four grandchildren, Amy Moore Schmidt of Charlotte, NC, Katie Moore of Tiverton, RI, Marshall Moore of Colfax, NC, and Addison Moore, of Colfax, NC.
Darris was proceeded in death by his siblings, Phyllis Mortimer of Rockdale, TX, Lois Hayes of Falling Rock, WV, and Phillip Moore of Tampa, FL. He is survived by siblings Paul Moore of Winchester, VA, Inez Drucker of Falling Rock, WV, Sunday Blackmon of Gloversville, NY, and Timothy Moore of Lakeland, FL.
Darris was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from 1961-1965 at Turner AFB in Albany, GA. He was employed for over 40 years with Piedmont Airlines (and its successors) in Charleston, WV, Southern Pines, NC, Beckley, WV, Columbia, SC, and Greensboro, NC. Having the gift of a mind for computers and systems, Darris transferred into the Information Systems department of Piedmont Airlines in 1985. He tenured through Piedmont’s mergers with US Airways, and systems mergers with Sabre, and Electronic Data Systems, retiring in 2005.
Growing up in Roane County, WV, Darris developed a love for the outdoors, of hunting and fishing, and family. There was rarely a leaf, tree, bird, or animal track he couldn’t immediately identify by sight or sound.
He was also an avid motorcycle rider, having traveled well over 200,000 miles, across the decades, on sport touring machines throughout the mountains of West Virginia, North Carolina, and Virginia.
Darris came to saving grace and salvation through Jesus Christ on December 5th of 2024. His family rejoices in this precious gift from the Lord. One of his final wishes for us was, “Don’t worry about me.”
A graveside service will be performed at Smith Grove Baptist Church in Colfax, NC.
