Mrs. Darlene Ruth Holcomb, 80, of Winston-Salem went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, July 27, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born June 18, 1932 in Iredell County, the daughter of Hobert M. and Nizzie Renegar Barnard. Mrs. Holcomb was formerly a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she was unable to attend for many years due to declining health. On August 20, 1949 she married Clayton Devon Holcomb. He was her soul mate, help mate and the love of her life for 57 years. He passed away on May 11, 2006. Mrs. Holcomb was unable to reside in her home and in 2007 she became a resident of Regency Nursing and Rehab in Clemmons. She was employed with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and was also a Rawleigh Product Distributor. Fondest memories will always be the spread on her table at suppertime as she was an awesome cook and homemaker. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Hobert Edwin Barnard and two sisters, Mrs. Catherine Kinder and Mrs. Lucille Wagner. She leaves to cherish many fond memories, three daughters, Judy Stijelja (Marko), Pam Simpson (Wayne) and Wanda Duncan (Jerry); two sons, Ricky Holcomb and Brent Holcomb (Michelle); five grandchildren, Gary Simpson (Jeran), Melissa Green (Brent), Mark Stijelja, Adrienne Coppola (Giovanni) and Allison Duncan; seven great granddaughters, Jessica, Laena, River, Summer, Emily, Rachel and Orsola; a great grandson, Ernesto and a brother, James Bryant Barnard. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel with Pastor Bryan Miller and Pastor Mervin Garrison officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brenner Children's Hospital, PO Box 571021, Winston-Salem, NC 27157-1021 or to St. Judes Children's Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
