LINEBERGER - KING After a brief period of declining health, Mrs. Daphne Rutledge Lineberger passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Universal Health Care of King. Daphne was born on June 28, 1926 in Stokes County to the late A.C. and Mary Rierson Rutledge. She graduated in 1943 as valedictorian of her class from Rural Hall High School. After attending business college in Winston-Salem, she worked for the Winston-Salem Journal and Sentinel. In 1960 she married Roger Graham Lineberger of Charlotte. Following their marriage they lived in Charlotte where she was a longtime member of Park Road Moravian Church, worked briefly at Wachovia Bank and later pursued her great interest in art and writing by enrolling at Central Piedmont Community College. Daphne was a talented painter and an accomplished poet. After her husband's death in 1997, she returned to Stokes County to make her home. While living in King, she attended First Baptist Church of King and Rural Hall Moravian Church. In addition to her parents and husband, Daphne was predeceased by her step-daughter, Carol Lineberger Turner; her sister, Hazel R. Lancaster; and her two brothers, Obert Ray and Mack Wayne Rutledge. She is survived by her step-daughter, Rebecca Lineberger and five step-grandchildren, all of Florida. Other survivors include her sister-in-law, Josephine Rutledge; nieces, Marianne L. Fay and Judy L. Brown and their families; nephew, Kent Lancaster; and cousins, Tammy S. Covel, Robin S. Voss and Penny S. Eudy and their families. A Memorial Service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2011 at First Baptist Church of King with Dr. Steve Craver officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Welcome Center of the church.
