Danny Gray Nifong, 87, born on March 31, 1937, son of Fred Samuel Nifong and Maude McDaniel Nifong left Earth For Heaven on July 21, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Shadrick Nifong of 68 years of marriage and two daughters, Danya Nifong Moss, husband John, and Lystra Nifong Yale and two awesome grandsons, Austin Yale and Trey Yale. Graduate of Griffith High School, attended Wake Forest University, graduate of Western Electric Training Program, attended Forsyth Technical College, graduate Training Program for Technical Electrical Engineering courses, graduate of Reynolds & Company Brokerage Exchange with Stock Traders Card, attended High Point College receiving Certificates in Bible and Psychology. He was employed at Western Electric/AT&T in the Engineering Commercial Arts Department for 33 years as a Draftsman. He had the Highest Security Clearance due to work on Government Guided Missile Projects. He started his own companies Diversified Drafting Company (1987) and Nifong Real Estate (1970).
Dan enlisted in the US National Guard Reserves, 120th Infantry in his senior year of High School. Basic Training at Fort Bragg, NC. He was privileged to be “Tapped” into the 181st Division 448th Nike Guided Missile Division attached to NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, Apollo Program, working with Wernher von Braun, top German Scientist at Red Stone Arsenal, Alabama. He served in Launch Control in the Nike Guided Missile Systems. His mission was to monitor long range missile firing if an order came to engage. He enjoyed working alongside the astronauts during his nine years of service. He was nominated as Soldier of the Year in 1957. His High Security Clearance enabled him to move quickly up in Rank. He actually moved from the Drawing Board to Launch Control, yes he was a Corvette Man.
Professional Skier and Nastar Ski Racing Director for Winston-Salem Ski Club. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Involved in many ministries: Adult Choir, Deacon, and Missions Boards. Music was a Gift he used to Glorify his Heavenly Father. He organized and sang with Faith Mac Quartet for 11 years, Gracemen for five years, GBC Trio for five years. He loved singing Duets with his wife Nancy. He also sang for the Pageant “I Dreamed I Searched Heaven For You” for over 20 years, over 200 performances.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Grace Baptist Church in Winston-Salem (3305 Peters Creek Pkwy) with Rev. Jeff Wylde officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm prior to the service, at the church. Graveside service will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
