Danny Groce

Mr. Danny Groce, 60, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at his home after a six year battle with cancer. He was born August 21, 1948 the son of Rev. R. Zeno and Helen Groce. Danny was a lifelong member of Woodland Baptist Church in Winston-Salem and was a beloved member of the Watchmen Sunday School Class. He graduated form North Forsyth High School in 1966 and was honorably discharged from the Air National Guard. Danny retired from Reynolds-American Tobacco Co. after 37 years of service. He loved to fish, golf and play softball. Danny and Pam spent many special times at their second home at Sunset Beach and enjoyed fellowship at Calvary Baptist Church while they were there. Danny was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Woodrow and Dorothy Childress. Danny is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Pam Childress Groce and their baby Shih Tzu ""Zak"", his parents, Rev. R. Zeno and Helen Groce of Winston-Salem, two brothers, Mike Groce and wife Brenda of Newton and Joel Groce and wife Donna of Winston-Salem, a sister-in-law, Ginger Cannon and husband Glenn of Sunset Beach, a brother-in-law, JR Childress and wife Gina of Kernersville, 6 nieces and nephews and 6 great-nieces and great-nephews. A memorial service to celebrate Danny's life will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Woodland Baptist Church in Winston-Salem with Bro. Jimmy Crawford and Rev. Tim Gammons officiating. The family will receive friends directly following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to; Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to send a special thanks to Dr. Patricia Zekan, Dr. Lisa Evans and hospice nurses Karen and Renee for the loving care shown to Danny in his time of need.
