Daniel “Danny” Lee Wilkes, 71, was accepted into the loving arms of his Lord, Thursday, October 28, 2021, at his home.
Danny was born on May 20, 1950, in Stokes County to the late Julian Lauren and Wilma Wilkes. Danny was genuinely kind and always ready to create a smile with his joking personality. As a lifelong resident of Kernersville, Danny was a self-employed jack-of-all-trades, building a dependable reputation in the community. Still, his proudest accomplishment was the many years dedicated to the Kernersville Little League, coaching his daughters’ softball teams.
Danny leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Vickie, and two daughters Kim (Eric) Reid and Tara (Brad) Jenkins; four grandchildren, Brady and Brennan King, Halle and Chase Jenkins; one sister, Jean Martin (C.E.); one brother, Jerry Wilkes (Cindy); nieces, nephews, and many special lifelong friends and “Angels” that will miss him dearly.
Danny was an active member and deacon of Union Grove Baptist Church in Oak Ridge. In addition to his parents, Danny is preceded in death by an infant brother, Bobby Dean Wilkes.
A celebration of Danny’s life will be held on Saturday, October 30 at 11:30 AM at Union Grove Baptist Church in Oak Ridge, with Pastor Steve Roberson officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory in Kernersville. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:15 AM prior to the service at the church. Hayworth- Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Novant Health Cancer Institute’s Hematology staff, who cared for him for the past year, and Mountain Valley Hospice for their care in his final weeks.
