Clemmons- Mr. Daniel Oather Slater, 83, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Clemmons Village I Assisted Living. He was born September 27, 1925 in Yadkin County to the late Adelbert and Pearl Taylor Slater. Mr. Slater was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during WWII and he later retired from Hanes Dye & Finishing with 40 years of service. He was a member of Enon Baptist Church. Mr. Slater loved gardening and to go walking. Preceding him in death was his wife, Mary Ellen Slater and three sisters, Ruth Brown, Mary Hauser, and Lib Jones. Surviving are two sons, Dan Slater (Katherine) of Advance and Ron Slater (Margaret) of Lewisville; two grandchildren, Samuel Slater and Michelle Shoaf; four step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; also surviving are two sisters, Hazel M. Sanow of Sparks, Nevada and Ida Pearl Conrad of Clemmons and a brother, William ""Nip"" H. Slater. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, August 10, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. William Hutchens and Rev. Mark Elmore officiating. Burial will follow at Enon Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family would like to send special thanks to the staff at Clemmons Village I for the wonderful care they gave to Mr. Slater.
