Daniel Matthews

Stokesdale – Mr. Daniel McKinley Matthews, 81, passed away peacefully Friday, January 15 , 2021. Daniel was born on December 25, 1939 in Guilford County to William McKinley Matthews and Della Irene Sally Matthews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings Myrtle Montgomery, John C. Matthews, Ruby Wilson, James H. Matthews, and his Great Grandchild Sonya Christine Pegram.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Mazie Pruitt Matthews; a son, Randall Matthews (Susan); a daughter, Darlene Pegram (James); seven grandchildren, Nathan (Katie), Adam (Zoided), Rachel (Ben), Grant (Elizabeth), Derek (Hannah), Grace and Hannah; 9 great grandchildren; two sisters Mary Pauline Bennett, and Judy Ann Garmon (Larry).

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am at their home church Gospel Light Baptist Church, in Walker Town, with Rev. Frank Shumate and Rev. Matt Morrison officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Lawn Baptist Church Cemetery. Due to restrictions for public gatherings, there will be no formal visitation. Friends are welcome to come, without the family present, to view Mr. Matthews as well as sign the register from 10:00 am until 10:45 am on Monday, January 18, 2021, at the church prior to the service.
