Dana Keith Pennell

Dana Keith Pennell, 61, of Winston-Salem, NC, died Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N. C. He was born in Winston-Salem, NC on February 6, 1952, to the late Ray E. Pennell, Sr. and Mary ""Polly"" Pope Pennell. He was the third of five siblings. On November 15, 1979, he married Cynthia ""Cindy"" Elaine New who survives. He is a graduate of Ledford High School in Thomasville, NC. At 19, he became the youngest general manager of Mayberry's Dairy at the Mayberry's Dairy Ice Cream Shop in Hickory, NC. It was there that he developed his love for ice cream. He later worked for RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company in Winston-Salem for many years. He then enjoyed working as Director of Special Events for Hauser Rental Services in Winston-Salem, NC for over 23 years and was still employed there. He loved going to and working at flea markets and spent many happy hours rebuilding and trading video games, pin ball machines and jukeboxes. He was a quiet man who seldom spoke, but he always had a beautiful smile on his face and a chuckle in his voice when he spoke. He was a patient, kindhearted man, a loving husband, father and brother and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and co-workers. In addition to his wife, who was his soul mate, he is survived by three children - Jim Tickle, Jr., Angie and wife, Jo Ann Winiarczyk Pennell, and Johnathan and wife, Heather Thompson Pennell all of Lexington, NC; grandchildren - Zach Tickle, Isaiah and (due soon) baby Pennell; Nathan, Seth, Dustin, Corey, Krystan ""Sissy"", and Jacob Brendle; two brothers - Rickie and wife, Brenda Nifong Pennell of Denton, NC, Eddie and wife, Shirley Nifong Pennell of Thomasville, NC; and multiple nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Pennell was preceded in death by his two younger brothers, John Lee Pennell and Gary Alan Pennell. A Funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at 11:00 AM at Hayworth Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home on Monday night, April 1, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. and at other times at the home of Angie and Jo Ann Pennell.
