Winston-SalemMr. Dan Harrison Garwood, 59, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2011 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born June 26, 1952 in Forsyth County to Ernest Vestal and Betty Mae Poteat Garwood. Mr. Garwood was of the Baptist faith and attended Rosemont Baptist Church. He graduated from Parkland High School and attended the Electronic Institute. Mr. Garwood was a longtime employee with Tuttle Lumber Co. He was an avid NASCAR fan especially watching Dale Earnhardt, Sr. Preceding him in death was his father. Surviving is his mother, Betty Mae Poteat Garwood of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Ann G. Burton (William) of Raleigh and Judy G. Pope (Terry) of Raleigh; nephew, Todd Pope (Lori) of Chapel Hill; three nieces, Teresa Drian (Lionel) of Clayton, Kellie Fessler (Grant) of Apex, and Christy Cleveland (Jim) of Cary; ten great nieces and nephews; also surviving is a special uncle, Plato Jacobs. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Mark Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family would like to thank Tuttle Lumber Co., Dr. Shearer and staff, and to the staff at hospice for all the care they provided.
