Damon Wear

Damon Andrew Wear, affectionately known as "Doc", age 67, died peacefully at home on Friday, January 12, 2018 surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born in Winston Salem, NC on June 7, 1950, to Hugh Lincoln and Geretha Everhart Wear, he was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Bobbie Brewer Wear, son Damon Jonathan (Kathryn) of Kernersville, NC, son Jason (Chrystie) of Oak Ridge, NC, grandchildren Jakob, Christopher and Jordan, his sister, Donna Ghent, brother-in-law, Dan Ghent, two special nieces, Katie Ghent Mosley and Jessica Ghent Marshall, and many close family and friends who were very special to Damon. His love of his family and friends knew no bounds.

After marrying the one true love of his life, high school sweetheart Bobbie Brewer, and graduating from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill, Damon opened a dental practice in Kernersville, NC in 1976 where he served his community for over forty years until June 2017. He considered patients his top priority and many became lifelong friends.

Damon had a passion for football that began as a young boy and lasted throughout his life when he became a dedicated Carolina Panthers fan. In his younger years, he was a volunteer coach for both the Kernersville Raiders and the Kernersville Little League youth programs, impacting many young men who remember him fondly.

Damon was a gifted tenor, singing in bands in high school and later in the Triad Men's Choir. He was especially fond of the harmony of Southern Gospel quartets. He also loved water sports, especially sailing and spent many happy days at his beach house in Ocean Isle with family, friends, and his beloved first black labs, Sambo and Bodie, and later Nicholas and Jackson.

Damon also enjoyed cooking and traveling to sunny spots with wife Bobbie and long-time friends, Bob and Linda LaRue. However, Damon's favorite role by far was to be "Poppy" to his three adored grandchildren.

Damon treasured his life in Kernersville, and always looked for ways to give back to the community. He was a self- described son of Christ and a member of The First Christian Church in Kernersville. He was also a proud member of the Kernersville Masonic Lodge #669, the Oasis Temple, the Mystic Shrine Club, and their parade unit, the Paw Patrol.

Damon was a wonderful example of the compassion, kindness and family values he felt were central to the joy of living. He was loved, respected, and an inspiration to all that knew him. He will be missed.

The family wants to thank special friends, Craig and Angie Bodford, Bob and Linda LaRue, and Hospice for their compassionate care as the Doc has valiantly battled cancer during the past sixteen months. He never gave in to the disease- working, traveling, and enjoying his grandchildren's activities until the last months of his life.

The family will receive family and friends at First Christian Church in Kernersville on Monday, January 15, 2018 from 7pm to 9pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at First Christian Church on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 3:30pm.

Gifts in memory of Damon A. Wear may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
