Dallas Eugene Shields

Mr. Dallas Eugene Shields, 83, of Winston-Salem passed away Monday, June 7, 2010 at East Cooper Regional Medical Center in Mt. Pleasant, SC. He was born March 6, 1927 to Burley Eugene Shields and Stella Alspaugh Shields. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Stanleyville where he enjoyed the fellowship and enduring friendship of that congregation. Mr. Shields served in the United States Navy during WWII , and retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in 1983. Mr. Shields was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Wall Shields; a son, Dennis Gray Shields; three brothers, Robert Shields, Ray Shields, and Sylvester Shields; and one sister, Carolyn Shields Evans. Mr. Shields left behind a son, Robert Eugene Shields and wife, Sheryl Taylor Shields, of Isle of Palms, SC; a daughter, Terri Lynn Dillon and husband, Victor Ray Dillon, of Colfax, NC; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Shields Dearman and husband, Timothy Dearman, of Statesville, NC; two brothers, Koyt Shields and Carl Shields of Winston-Salem; and a sister, Catherine Soots, of Wilkesboro. Mr. Shields loved and adored his ten grandchildren, Stephanie Shields Jacoby, Stacy Shields Walker, Gregory McLelland Shields, Mary Catherine Shields, Abby Flynn Nelson, Emily Lee Shields, Leslie Flynn Winterfeldt, Alex Gray Shields, Summer Rae Dillon, and Dalton Levi Dillon; and four great-grandchildren, James Andrew Connelly, Josiah Benjamin Connelly, Caleb Christopher Winterfeldt, and Audrey Leigh Nelson. A Funeral Service will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday, June 12 at First Baptist Church of Stanleyville with the Rev. Eddie Honeycutt, the Rev. Randy Wall and Mr. George Presson officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall with military rites provided by the VFW Post 8593. The family will receive friends and family from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 11th at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Stanleyville, Building Fund, 851 Ziglar Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
