Dallas Hunter

Mr. Dallas E. Hunter, 82, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born May 11, 1927 in Forsyth County to William B. and Bertie Scott Hunter. Mr. Hunter retired from AT&T Federal Systems after 39 years of service. He loved to travel and lived all over the world. Mr. Hunter enjoyed gardening and tending fruit trees, he loved his family and home and adored all animals and loved his pets dearly. Mr. Hunter grew up on a farm where he helped his father in the tobacco and lumber business. He attended Old Richmond School and High Point College followed by four years in the U.S. Navy where he served in WWII in the Pacific Theater and in Japan. Following his military service, he married Rachel Jordan in 1948. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dale Hunter. Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Rachel Jordan Hunter of the home; two daughters, Jenny Hunter Byrd and husband Robert Tapsfield of London, England and Faye Elizabeth Hunter of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Elizabeth R. Byrd and Charlotte Byrd; three step-grandchildren, Laura Tapsfield, Sarah Coffils and Amy Tapsfield; one sister, Virginia Hartgrove of Pfafftown; many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted 2:00PM Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Donna Molofsky officiating.
