KERNERSVILLE – Dale Underhill, 74, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2021. Dale was born on May 29, 1946 in Hamilton County, OH. He was the son of Oliver Edward and Lila Virginia Alexander Underhill. Dale was raised in rural Indiana by foster parents, John and Stella Pape. Dale was active in 4-H and graduated from Milan High School in Milan, IN. He attended Milligan College in TN before taking graduate classes at Ball State University and Xavier in Cincinnati. Dale taught history for two years before becoming active in financial and real estate sales. Later in his career, he spent several years in management at Coral Springs Shopping Mall in Florida and co-owned Power Hit Indoor Batting Cages prior to owning Home Run Batting Cages in Tradewinds Park. While living in Florida, Dale also sponsored the “Stars of Tomorrow” Baseball Showcase for juniors and seniors in conjunction with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. After moving to North Carolina, Dale was an active member in the Civil Air Patrol and Grace Presbyterian Mission Committee where he enjoyed working on mission trips for both organizations. He is survived by his wife, Mona Crowell Underhill; four children, Patrick (Julie) Underhill, Laura (Robert) Horn, Rebecca (Charles) Raycroft, and Thomas (Kerri) Underhill; ten grandchildren, Kaley (Marcus) Brown, Alan (Anna, fiance’) Underhill, Zachary Underhill, Maycen and Jackson Raycroft, Garrett, Peyton and Bryson Horn, Allison and Preston Underhill; two great grandchildren, Addison and Vivienne Brown; a sister-in-law, Vera Hunteman; brothers-in-law, Bill (Judy) Crowell), and Faye Crowell; and many nieces and nephews.
With social distancing observed and masks required, there will be a visitation from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 28, 2021, at Grace Presbyterian Church in Kernersville. A private funeral service will be held following the visitation with Pastor Randy Edwards officiating.
A private burial will be held on Monday, March 1, at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church- Mercy Ministry Fund, 360 Hopkins Road, Kernersville, NC 27284. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
