Cynthia ""Pepi"" Southern, 68, met her heavenly father Thursday April 14th, 2016. Cynthia endured Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease for the past several years. She received exceptional personal care in her final days from an excellent doctor and skilled nurses whose compassion brought her and her loved ones peace and understanding. Cynthia was born in Stokes Co. on October 16, 1948 to the late Otha and Prudence Shelton. She was a lover of music as a young child, singing with her mother and sisters. Cynthia carried her gift of music into adulthood where she sang most of her life at King Moravian Church praising her Lord and Savior through music. Her alto voice was a gift from heaven and I know she is now singing in Heavens Choir. Cynthia graduated from South Stokes High School in Walnut Cove and was employed by Reynolds American for over thirty plus years in the accounting department. She had a personal relationship with her heavenly father and purely loved everyone she met. Cynthia never knew a stranger and her sweet smile followed her wherever she went. To know her was to love her. She saw the beauty in every person young and old. Her joy in life came from helping others, this was when she was at her happiest. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters; Louise Montgomery and Peggy Abrego. She is survived by her husband of nearly fifty years; Jerry David Southern, a son; Joe Southern and wife Margaret of Germanton, a daughter; Jerri Lynn Wolfe and husband Jon of King, three grandchildren; Kevin and Cole Southern and Chris Darby. ""Pepi"" is also survived by two brothers; Byron and Otha Jr. Shelton, two sisters; Margie and Brenda Boles, several nieces and nephews and many special friends all of who she adored dearly and held close to her heart. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Monday evening, April 18, 2016 at King Moravian Church with Rev. Gerry Befus officiating. Burial will take place the following day Tuesday, April 19th 2016 at 11:00 am at God's Acre of King Moravian Church. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family wishes memorials to be made to: King Moravian Church Choir Fund, Attn: Drake Flynt Address: 234 W Dalton Rd, King, NC 27021 or Kate B.
