Cynthia Smith

Cynthia Anne Ellerbe Smith, 81, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at Forsyth Medical Center. Cynthia was born on January 28, 1941 in Rockingham, NC to the late Dudley Ellerbe, Sr. and Mary Robinson Ellerbe. She was a graduate of the former Hamlet High School in Hamlet, where she met her high school sweetheart and soon to be husband, E.B. Smith, Jr. Cynthia and E.B. were members of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem and attended until their health no longer allowed them to do so. Cynthia loved to crochet in her free time and was an avid reader. She had a thirst for knowledge and was always finding something new and interesting to learn. She was a very giving and nurturing person to everyone she met and made friends easily. Cynthia’s family was the most important aspect of her life, and she was a devoted wife and mother. In addition to her parents, Cynthia was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, E.B. Smith, Jr.; and brother, Dudley Ellerbe, Jr. Surviving family includes her two children, Romaine Maurais (Rich) and Kevin Smith (Marisa). A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 14, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dr. Mary Miller officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery. Cynthia will lie in state in the church sanctuary for 30 minutes prior to the service.
