Cyndia Morton

Colfax – Ms. Cyndia Mears Morton, 73, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 1st, 2022 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Charles Robert Mears and Catherine Rice Mears and was born March 17th, 1949 at Saint Leo’s Hospital in Greensboro, NC. She was an only child. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and retired from Guilford County Schools as a bus driver.

“Granny M”, also known as “Nonnie” was an old-fashioned kind of gal. She grew up in the 60’s when kids ran around bare-footed, laughing and playing outside, teenagers wore classic pencil dresses, saddle shoes and poodle skirts with a nice sweater, and cruised down Market Street to the Boar and Castle. She introduced her children and grandchildren to Shirley Temple, Gone with the Wind and the Biltmore House and all its history. Although she loved her swimming pool in the summer, her favorite time of year was when it was cold and snowy, when she could make a batch of snow cream. Animals and small children were drawn to her because they sensed her gentle kindness and loving heart. She took the safety and well-being of her students that rode her bus very seriously and she was loved dearly by them and many of the parents along her route. She was the quiet type, choosing to listen to what was going on around her. But she new how to have a good time and time spent with her children and grandchildren were the best! She liked reading mystery novels and could tell you the name of every actor and actress in all the old movies. Her latest hobby included watching Downton Abbey and Call the Midwife on Netflix. Her favorite foods included spaghetti, chocolate ice cream and Amish Fry Pies, black liquorice and Fire Balls from The Commons Amish Store in Mespo, OH.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Ruth Mears and many beloved aunts and uncles. She is survived by her oldest son, Robert Aaron Morton and wife Melinda of Greensboro, daughter Christy Morton Turner and husband Brian of Warren Ohio and son Brian Lee Morton of Warren Ohio. Also surviving are grandsons, Michael Turner and Andrew Morton and granddaughters Megan Turner, Emilie Morton and LeeAnn Morton.
