Curtis Henry Yokley, Jr.

Curtis Henry Yokley, Jr., 86, affectionately known as ""Paw"" passed away Sunday, June 7, 2009 at Mountain Valley Living Center surrounded by his family and friends. He was born January 7, 1923 in Davidson County to the late Curtis Henry Yokley, Sr. and Nora Nifong Yokley. Mr. Yokley retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with 35 years of service. Preceding him in death was his wife of 56 years, Avonell Murphy Yokley ""Nannie"" in November of 2007; sisters, Rachel Smith and Sarah Yokley; brothers, Rufus, Harrison, and Raeford Yokley. Surviving are his daughters, Brenda Peddycord (Greg Pratt) and Sharon Cameron (Richard); two grandchildren, Elizabeth ""Sissy"" Crump (Chris) and Michael Cameron; a sister, Elva Shoaf (Oscar) and several special nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 3:30 PM Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Tony Pyrtle officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2:30-3:30 pm. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and to the staff at Mountain Valley Living Center, Paula, April, Linda, Angel, Sue, Jennifer, Reba, Tammie, Patience, Phyllis and Teresa for the compassion, care, kindness and love given to ""Paw."" You also became his family and he loved each of you; and to his special friends at Mountain Valley for becoming such a huge part of his life, Ola, Wilma, Doris, Dorothy, Ruby, Jane, Herb, and Maynard. We love you all. The family also wishes to offer thanks to Tuttle Enterprises, Danny, Tisha, and Judy for the beautiful home in which he was able to spend his remaining years.
