Mr. Curtis Steen, 90 passed away Sunday, October 6, 2024 after a long illness. He fought until the end and is now at peace. He was born on May 21, 1934 in Bennettsville, SC to the late Eli and Mary Etta Huggins Steen. Known as Paw Paw by his “grandyoungins” and Daddy by his “youngins”, he will be missed by all that knew him.
Along with his wife Frances, they put roots down in 1969 and raised their family in Kernersville, NC. He owned and operated a tree service business since 1980. You could find him in the garden on most weekends or by the television watching the news. He always had pets as part of his long life and adored animals. He was a great storyteller and some of his stories will be told for years to come.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances (married 46 years) and brothers Asbery, Bobby and Eli “Buddy” Steen. Surviving is a son, Curtis Wayne Steen (wife, Christy); a daughter, Elizabeth Steen Caruso (husband, Chris) and his beloved granddaughters Shelby and Abby. Also surviving are sisters, Mary Etta Israel, Elizabeth S. Floyd, Frances S. Adams and sister-in-law, Heather Steen; several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind Paris his Frenchie who laid upon his lap on his last day and stayed by his side until he left his home. Special warm wishes and thoughts to the nurses of Trellis Supportive Care who helped comfort him through his illness.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 14 at 11:00 AM at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory in Kernersville, NC.
Memorials may be made to Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 to help with the Hurricane Helene disaster response in NC (and other states). Thoughts and prayers go out to all affected communities.
