Tuesday, December 12, 2017, the world grew a little dimmer with the passing of Cuong "Stephen" Duy Tran.
It was on September 24, 1980 that this brilliant light was born in Vietnam to Hung and Loc Tran. Who knew that Stephen would grow to be such a loved one to his family, admired by gear heads, and feared by gamers for his tenacity? He was the Zangief of terror, the AWI. He was the type of guy you couldn't wait to introduce to your friends or have at gatherings because he always made you laugh. You could even spot him at the back of the stage rocking on the drums, ever so humble, ever so talented. He was the favorite son, the favorite brother, and everyone's favorite cousin.
Stephen is survived by the love of his life, Kim Ngoc Tran; daughter, Ellie Tran; father and mother, Hung and Loc Tran; sister, Lan Smith and husband Wayne; nephew Zaden Smith; mother in law, Nga Nguyen; and a large and lovingly rambunctious extended family.
A celebration of Stephen's life will be held Monday, December 18, 2017 at noon at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston Salem NC. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
The family has set up a fund for Stephen's daughter Ellie and donations may be directed to: Ellie Tran c/o Kim Tran, Robinhood Village Dr., Box 129, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
