Mr. Cromer Lee Grubbs, 78, passed away at his home at Reynolda Park Assisted Living in Winston-Salem. He was born in Davidson County on April 10, 1930 to the late Cromer Narvin Grubbs and Emma White Grubbs. Mr. Grubbs was a lifelong member of South Stokes Church of Christ in King. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a medic during the Korean War. Mr. Grubbs retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 33 years of service. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Callie Ayers Grubbs in February of this year, a brother, Otis Grubbs and a sister, Agnes Fishel. He is survived by his daughter, Emma ""Sissy"" Strickland and husband Robert of King, a granddaughter, Shannon Hale and husband Philip of Walburg, a great-granddaughter, Seanna Hale and three sisters, Hazel Fishel of Walkertown, Betty Percival of Winston-Salem and Geraline Van Hoy of Kernersville. Funeral services for Mr. Grubbs will be held 2:00 Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Jim Coviello, Minister and Jerry Pence, Minister officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 6-8 this evening Oct. 28, 2008 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to; South Stokes Church of Christ, P.O. Box 483, King, NC 27021. The family would like to send a special word of thanks to South Stokes Church of Christ for all of the prayers and support and would also like to thank, Reynolda Park Assisted Living, Dr. Davey Stallings, Dr. John Holland and Dr. Stephen Kirkland for the care and compassion that was shown through his time of need.
