Mr. Creston Randolph Southard, age 89 overcame his final challenge and passed away quietly amongst his beloved family Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Creston was born July 1, 1924 to George Milford and Maude Angeline Keator Southard in Duffytown, PA. Creston was a member of Kingswood United Methodist Church in Rural Hall. He was an inventor, and held numerous United States patents, was a World War II Honoree, having spent most of WWII at Pearl Harbor involved in salvage and repair of the fleet. He was president of Iroquois Field Archer Club in Erie, PA. He was Scout Master for Wayne Street Methodist Church in Erie, PA Troop # 31. He was an avid outdoorsman who liked to hunt, camp and fish. Creston was engineering supervisor at Champion Dish Washer Machine Company, President of Creston Equipment Corporation for 29 years; Founder and owner of Creston Water Tech. In 2011, he published a book about his life, ""Duffytown Boy"" Bookstand Publishing, available on Amazon www.BookstandPublishing.com . In addition to his parents Creston was preceded in death by his sisters: Mildred Peasley, Norma Jane Heberlein, Nola Woodward, Frances Ohlehiser, Brothers: Milford Southard and Lawrence Southard.
Mr. Creston is survived by his wife of 68 years of marriage, Ella Haisoon Kim Southard. One daughter, Rachel Southard and three sons; Randy Southard, Dwight (Tracy) Southard and Dean (Daphne) Southard. Eleven grandchildren; Meriella (Davie) Vanzant, Kymberly Andrews and Jack Knight, Preston, Roman, Soniya, Kelly, Stacy and Andriya Hardy. Amber and Katie Southard and Victoria Lopez. Seven great-grandchildren; Sarah (Jeremy) Perdue, Ryleigh, Kendrick and Noah Hardy, Jocelyn, Josiah and King Lossie, and two Great-great-granddaughters; Ella Perdue and Bailey Knight. Adopted by love: Sara Parsons, Nikolas and Lukas Parsons. Many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Southard will be held Friday, April 4, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Kingswood United Methodist Church in Rural Hall by Rev. Sidney Lanier. The family will receive friends following the funeral service at the church. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Kingswood United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 399, Rural Hall, NC 27045 or to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
