Caleb Reid (CR) Gilley, age 81, traded his earthly home for his heavenly mansion on Friday, January 7, 2022. He was born in Surry County on June 29, 1940, to the late John William Gilley and Ida Rosella Brinkley Gilley. CR loved the South Westfield community and his home church, Jessup Grove Baptist Church. He had a kind and gentle spirit and always sought out the best in others and strived to put others needs before his own. During his time here on earth, he could often be seen giving back to his community and the church. He was not only an active member of Jessup Grove Baptist Church but also previously held positions such as choir director and deacon. He was also a Ruritan at the South Westfield Ruritan Club. Before his retirement years, he could be found working at Gilley’s Automotive where he was employed as a mechanic for over 60 years. During his tenure, he was known as the trusted rural community mechanic you could depend on to take care of your auto or tractor repair needs while doing it with a smile on his face and focusing on doing it the right way. He leaves behind a stoic legacy and heritage to be carried forward for years to come by those family members he leaves behind. In addition to his parents, CR was preceded in death by his siblings; Earlie Gilley, Cecil Gilley, Melverine Cooke, Ray Gilley, Rex Gilley and Mozelle Gilley. He leaves behind his high school sweetheart and wife of 61 years, Glenda (Wilson) Gilley. He also leaves behind his son C. Reid (Susan) Gilley, Jr, and daughter Candy (Rodney) Cook. In addition, he leaves behind his beloved grandchildren Caleb R Gilley III, Blake (Courtney) Gilley, Grace Cook and MaryBeth Cook and one great grand-daughter Adleigh Gilley. He is also survived by his sister Glenda Gravitte and brother Wade Gilley. Family will receive friends and loved ones on Friday, January 14th at Jessup Grove Baptist Church from 5:00pm-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 15th @ 2:00pm also at Jessup Grove Baptist Church. Family requests that proper COVID safety measures are used and in place for those visitors who can attend. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff and volunteers at the Woltz Hospice Home for their compassion and care during this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Woltz Hospice Home at 945 Zephyr Rd, Dobson, NC 27017.
