Cornelia Skidmore

Mrs. Cornelia (Connie) Darks Skidmore, 83, of Winston-Salem, went to be with the Lord on Monday evening, February 1, 2010 at her home. She was born November 28, 1926, in Greenbrier, Tennessee to the late Odie Lee and Ivy Mae Darks. She was a member of Advent Moravian Church. She married the love of her life, William Turner Skidmore Sr., on Dec. 28, 1953 and he was her loving husband for 53 years. She cherished raising her family of five. From the day her first was born until the day she died, her job on earth was to be a wife, mother, ""Nannie"" and a child of God. She taught her family about three things, God, love, and family. That is what she believed and that is how she raised her family. She loved her family and made her house a home and it was from that home, she left to join her husband in Heaven whom she had dearly missed for the last two and a half years. She was co-owner of Skidmore's Office Furniture and Supply. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers-in-law, Mason Payne of Clemmons and Bill Brindle of Cartersville, GA. Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Odie and Cheryl Skimore, Sharon and Randy Craver, William Turner Skidmore Jr., Teresa and Barry Markland, Denise and Dana Dunevant, and Laurie Skidmore Lucas and Jim; 14 grandchildren, Melea and SPC Jamie Hansen, Meagan and Zeke Gump, Kristi and Craig Watson, Mari Skidmore, Justin Craver, Micah Skidmore, Danielle Skidmore, Austin Dunevant, Turner Skidmore III, Bryanna Markland, Marshall Skidmore, Samantha Dunevant, Mitchell Skidmore, and Tanner Markland; seven great grandchildren, Chase, Hunter, Alexis, Shauna, Keenan, Will and Ryder; one sister, Jennie Payne; two sisters-in-law, Sue Brindle, and Anne and Charles Krites; a brother-in-law, Ned and Ruth Skidmore; and a multitude of cherished nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, February 4 at Advent Moravian Church with the Rev. David Berrier and Minister Shon Earhart officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Februrary 3 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to Forsyth Regional Cancer Center Simstein Fund, 3333 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. On behalf of Connie, her family would like to express a special thanks to her grandson, Micah Skidmore for his love and care that he so unselfishly gave to her. Your love for your grandmother made her last days here on earth liveable; thank you. Also we want to thank Dr. Chirapa Sinthusek and her devoted staff, Dr. Eugene Paschold and staff. ""We love you and we'll see you on the other side of Heaven."" Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
