Corbett Gordon Jones

Mr. Corbett Gordon Jones, 85, passed away June 5, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Rutherford County, NC to the late Gordon Andrew Jones and Pansy Mae Lovelace Jones. Mr. Jones was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Ellenboro, NC. He served in the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserves from 1944 - 1954. He was retired from Anchor Motor Freight and was previously employed with McLean Trucking Company. He enjoyed dancing and was a member of USA Dance, Inc. He was an avid woodworker owning his own business, Tri-Wood Concepts by Corbett. He was thankful for the opportunity to teach his great talent in woodworking as an instructor at Forsyth Technical College. He instilled an excellent work ethic in his family and was always willing to help others. He will always be remembered as a loving Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather. Mr. Jones is survived by his former wife, Annie Horton Jones; his four daughters, Judy Simmons and husband Robert, Myra Neal and husband Tim, Alisa Royall and husband Tim, Melody Southern and husband Landon; six grandchildren, Brian Simmons, Laurie Bagbey and husband Patrick of Banner Elk, Russell Kepley, Lindsey Cox and husband Seth of Boonville, Jackson Southern, and Evan Southern; six great-grandchildren, Emma, Lillian, and Katherine Simmons, Ryland Albert Bagbey, Mackinzie and Madison Cox; a special friend, Loretta Breier; a sister, Nellene Jones Whitaker; two brothers, Charles Glenn Jones and wife Georgia, and Clyde Ervin Jones and wife Freda. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many extended family members. A funeral service will be held at 12:00pm, Friday, June 10, 2011 at Bethel Baptist Church in Ellenboro, NC with the Rev. David Easler and Dr. Wayne Blackwood officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
