KERNERSVILLE - Cora Lee Dwiggins Beeson, 97, died Thursday, November 25, 2010, at her home. Cora Lee was born September 22, 1913, in the Dwiggins family home where - as she wished-she died. She lived there her entire 97 years. Her parents were the late Walter S. and Laura Lee Warren Dwiggins, In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband of more than 50 years, Thomas Craig Beeson and their infant daughter, Sheila Colleen. She was also predeceased by all her brothers and sisters. Brothers; Garland, Willie, Vance, and Pink Dwiggins. Sisters; Eva Lasley, Sudie Pegram, Onie Jones, and Avahlea Huff. Cora Lee was recognized throughout Forsyth County for her beautiful completely handmade quilts. Her family estimates that over her lifetime, she created as many as 350-400 colorful, pieced and appliqu郩d quilts - many of which were given to children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews on special occasions. She and her husband Tom were also recognized for carrying on and teaching others about traditional North Carolina crafts such as jelly making, curing country ham, canning foods, and fermenting scuppernong and muscadine wines. At the time of her death Cora Lee was the oldest member of Bethel United Methodist Church near Oak Ridge. She had been a member of this church, which her ancestors helped found, for more then 88 years. She spearheaded a United Methodist Women of Bethel project to give handmade quilts to the Methodist Children's Home in Winston-Salem. The church women have made and donated such a quilt every year for 50 years, and the project continues today. Cora Lee was also a member of the Forsyth County Homemakers Club for more than 50 years. She is survived by her two daughters; Maurice B. Woods (Gwyn) of Kernersville and Ellen B. MacMillan (John) of Cary; five adult grandchildren; Craig Biles (Teresa) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Leigh Biles of Chapin, SC, Andy Biles of Kernersville, Derek Woods (Michelle) of Kernersville and Ashley Lawson (Terry) of Kernersville; five dearly beloved great-grandchildren; Shane Biles of Chapin, SC; Matthew and Trevor Woods and Brody and Peyton Lawson, all of Kernersville. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Danny Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel.
