Connie Meadows Atkins

Kernersville - Connie M. Atkins, 78, of Colfax, North Carolina, passed away at High Point Regional Hospital on January 2, 2025. She was born into a faithful Baptist family and attended the Baptist Church in many states, on military bases and in Germany while accompanying her husband during his military service. Connie earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and worked as the Nephrology Unit Patient Care Manager and as an Employee Health Registered Nurse for many years at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville, NC. Upon her retirement and move to Colfax, she became a member of the Shady Grove Wesleyan Church, Colfax, NC where her husband is a lifelong member. She loved going to the beach and spoiling her children and grandchildren by taking them to Disney World.

Connie was the ninth girl born to Mary Elizabeth and Isaac Theodore Meadows.

She was preceded in death by seven of her sisters, Tip Barrow, Jewel Vance, Minnie Belle Morphis, Linda Gray Marion, Theo Stephens, Jeanette Bull and her identical twin, Bonnie Robbins.

She is survived by her husband, Philip W. Atkins, of the home, her son Walter (Kelly) and daughter, Emily Kolb, (Jeramey), four grandchildren: Colin, Sophia, Jacob and Lilly, one sister, Yvonne Steptoe of Georgia and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 1:00pm Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Shady Grove Wesleyan Church with Pastors Todd Reynolds and Phil Kirkman officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00pm - 7:00pm Friday, January 10, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, 3950 Macy Grove Road, Kernersville, NC 27284.

In place of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund at Shady Grove Wesleyan Church at 119 N. Bunker hill Rd., Colfax, NC 27235. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
