Winston-Salem- Colon Ray ""Boodie"" Overby born July 7, 1937, 74, of Winston-Salem went to his Heavenly Home on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 after a battle with cancer. He was born in Winston-Salem to the late Roscoe Lee Overby and Lottie Sedena Fowler Overby and was raised in ""City View"". Boodie was well loved by many people. He never met a stranger. He will always be remembered as a loving Father, Husband, Brother, Uncle, Grandfather, and Friend. He was an avid ""Junk Man"", ""Shade Tree Mechanic"" and race car fan. Boodie served a total of five years in the National Guard and retired from Pilot Freight Carriers with 28 years of service. He attended Calvary Hill Baptist Church in Walnut Cove, NC. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas (Winston-Salem), Ralph (Fort Bragg), and Norman ""Sid"" Overby (Advance) and an infant grandchild. ""Boodie"" leaves behind a loving wife, soulmate, and friend of 42 years, Betty P. Overby of the home; daughter, Sabrina ""Renee"" Overby and fiancée Kenny Tackett (Winston-Salem); step-daughter, Teresa Kay Frye (Ron) of Kernersville; two step-sons, Rick Wilson (Karen) of Pfafftown and Gary Wilson (Cecilia) of Shoals; a sister, Betty Jean Smith of King; Four-Legged Grandson, Rocky; step-sisters, Deborah Everett (Gary) of Kernersville, Gail Moore (Mark) of Tulsa, OK; a step-brother, Gary Overby (Joyce) of King; six grandchildren, Kristie Kaiser (Billy) of Arlington, TN, Stephanie Wilson (Winston-Salem), Daniel Gage Wilson of Winston-Salem, Brittany Wilson of Shoals, Robin Frye and Terry Frye (Lexington); four great-grandchildren, Meghan, Jenna, and Erin Kaiser of Arlington, TN, and Jade Brewer of Winston-Salem; best friends, Wiley Pack (Walnut Cove) and Joe Hart (Johns Island, SC). A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Friday, January 20, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Roy Fagg officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
