OAK RIDGE - Mr. Clyde Hanes Young, Sr., 81, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Wesley Long Hospital. Clyde was born March 15, 1931 in Guilford County to the late Elias and Alma Grace McGee Young. Clyde was an Oak Ridge native and graduate of Summerfield High School and attended Oak Ridge Military Institute. He was stationed in Germany while serving in the United States Army. He worked at Lorillard Tobacco Co. in the laboratory and then the U.S. Postal Service where he retired as a letter carrier with 28 years of service of which he faithfully served his patrons at Guilford College for 21 years. Clyde enjoyed playing softball and played with Higgins Cycle Shop for 18 years He had a great love for traveling and golf and loved to meet people; but his greatest love was for his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Annie Crutchfield, Hazel Morris, Edna Beeson and Opal Flynt; and two brothers, Hubert and Raymond Young. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 37 years, Nora Ballew Young of the home; two sons, Clyde Young, Jr. and wife, Melanie of Oak Ridge; two daughters, Rhonda Irwin and Gina Ambrosino both of Greensboro; step-son, Kenneth Bean and wife, Teresa of Emerald Isle; and eight grandchildren, Zach and Chelsea Young, Brian and Nichole Irwin, Colby, Sophia, and Matthew Ambrosino, and Brittany Bean; two sisters, Elsie Marshall and Juanita McCormick and husband, Rufus. A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Central Baptist Church in Oak Ridge with Dr. Roy Carter and Rev. David Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. The family wishes to thank a very special nephew and niece, M.K. and Lucy Moore for all their support given over the years; also special friends, Ruth Keller, Sandy Moskel, and Melanie Todd for all their loving care, as well as Dr. Robert Fried for his excellent care.
