Walkertown – Mr. Clyde Pegram Webster, 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at his residence. He was born in Stokes County on October 14, 1928, to Henry A. and Ora Pegram Webster. Clyde and his brother, Bill started Webster Brothers Hardware after purchasing Neals Store and it has been in the family for 68 years. It was a successful business by the side of the road and Clyde was a friend to all who came by. Clyde loved Walkertown and Love’s United Methodist Church where he served in many different positions including being the first President of Love’s United Methodist Men. He and Patsy were members of the Will Hanes Sunday School class for many years.
Clyde was the very first Fire Chief of Walkertown Volunteer Fire Department where he served in that position for 25 years. He was also the chairman of the Walkertown Sanitary District for 20 years and was the President of the Walkertown Civic Club for 2 years. Ace Hardware Corp. presented Clyde with the Golden Hammer award for 50 plus years of service to the hardware industry. Clyde enjoyed a wonderful life, living long enough to see most of his boyhood dreams come true. He always had words of encouragement to everyone he came in contact with. When asked if he was having a good day, often he would reply with “God don’t make no bad days”.
In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Patsy Clark Webster; his brother, Bill Webster; sister, Helen Patton; and grandchild, Holly Webster.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Webster; three sons, Roger Webster (wife, Cindy), John Webster (wife, Amanda), and Howard Webster (wife, Dana); grandchildren, Katie Blakley (husband, Mike), Betsy Webster (husband, Matt), Emily Flynt (husband, Austin), and Will Webster; and great grandchildren, Parker and Chance Blakley and Wyatt Webster.
The Webster family would like to thank the loving and caring people from Right At Home for the care given to Clyde these last few months as well as the caring folks from Amedisys Hospice.
A graveside service for Clyde will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 10, 2022, at Love’s United Methodist Church with Pastor Chip Webb officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service. Clyde would like all of his friends to come and say “Goodbye” and sign the register from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. The family will not be present. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Love’s United Methodist Church Children’s Program at P.O.
