Mr. Clifton Nathaniel Whisenhunt, Jr., 73, affectionately known as “Brother”, went to be with the Lord, August 15, 2023. He was born July 21, 1950 to the late Clifton Nathaniel Whisenhunt, Sr. and Pearl Wilma Cockerham Whisenhunt. Clifton proudly served in the United States National Guard from 1970-1977. He worked at Fairchild Industries and retired with 40 years’ service. He was a member of Woodland Baptist Church for 64 years, and a teacher of the Heaven’s Child’s Class for 35 years. He always had a wink and a smile on his face, even when he had to wear his oxygen. He coached all three sports at Woodland Baptist Christian School. In addition, he coached football and baseball at Walkertown Little League. Brother’s testimony led him in mentoring many young men who often sought his advice throughout their lives. He loved God’s creation; from fishing at the coast, enjoying his cabin at the mountains, and gardening at his house. Above all else, he loved spending time with all his grandbabies. He made special memories with them by going to all their events, vacations at the beach and enjoying Saturday morning breakfast. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers-in law, Larry West, and Harold Groce. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Rita Kay Hartman Whisenhunt; two children, Christy Koontz (Ty), and Chad Whisenhunt(Angela); four grandchildren, Jackson, Reagan, Holden, and Charles; five siblings, Jimmy(Loretta), Sylvia Groce, Wilma West, Donnie(Rhonda), and Mark(Jannette); Special extended family members, Ronnie Hartman, Jacque (Ben)Scism, Jessica(Andrew)Jones, and many other nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00, Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Woodland Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Gammons officiating. Interment will follow the service at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends Friday evening, August 18, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Woodland Baptist Church Building Fund. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com
