Mr. Clifton Gentry Averette, 78, of Clemmons, passed away Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born May 11, 1932 in Person County to William Ollie and Lona Strum Averette. Mr. Averette was a member of Clemmons First Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from AT&T with over 37 years of service. Five brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Shirley Averette of the home; two sons, Mark Averette and wife Kim of Gibsonville and Paul Averette and wife Sharon of Huntersville; a daughter, Rebecca Davis and husband Todd of Charlotte and four grandchildren, Lauren and Kaitlyn Averette and Shelby and Caleb Davis. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Clemmons First Baptist with Dr. Robby Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the Alamance Memorial Park Cemetery in Burlington. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
