Our beloved husband, father, and papa, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, March 31, 2024, at his home.
Cletus Roger Snyder was the firstborn child of the late Luther and Nora Snyder, born on December 8, 1932, in Forsyth County, NC.
He attended Griffith School for twelve years before graduating in 1951. Cletus played baseball and football during his high school years, where he would make lifelong friendships with his classmates that would continue on throughout his life.
After high school, Cletus served in the Naval Reserves before joining the US Army. While stationed in Pittsburgh, PA, he met a "pretty little nursing student" named Mary Ann Mowry. He studied one semester at Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana, while waiting for her to finish her education. They married three days after her graduation from nursing school and began their lives together in Winston-Salem, NC. Cletus worked for Western Electric for several years and then would move on to work as a mail carrier for the US Post office for 30 years, in which he made many lifelong friends.
If Cletus had a hobby, it revolved around baseball. He was involved in the early stages of South Little League and was the second president of the league. This was before he had sons old enough to play. He touched many young lives in this capacity. Another past time of his was chopping wood and riding his lawnmower. He spent endless hours on the farm helping his dad, and his family would say he enjoyed watching the Weather Channel in-between naps.
Cletus and Mary Ann bore three children, Beth, Dan, and David. He was a pioneer for the "modern day dad." He changed diapers, fed the kids, and put them to bed when Mary Ann worked. He was always present at ballgames and school events, as family was so very important to him.
Cletus was a founding member of Grace Baptist Church, now in Germanton, NC. He served as a deacon, treasurer, Sunday school teacher, and song leader. His Lord and church were of utmost importance to him.
In addition to his parents, Cletus was preceded in death by his siblings, Florence, Reid, and Jerry; and his nephew, Craig.
Those left to cherish his memory include the love of his life, Mary Ann; children, Beth (Marty) of the home, Dan (Rhonda) of Olympia, WA, and David of Cary, NC; eight grandchildren, Austin, Nathan, Samantha, Becka, Jessica, Noah, Sierra, and Adam; seven great-grandchildren, Vance, Lennon, Adalyn, Anna Beth, Waylon, Beckham, and Campbell; two more precious great-grandchildren on the way; the remaining members of Griffith High School Class of 1951, AKA "The Best Class Ever"; and friends too numerous to count.
Cletus and Mary Ann traveled the world, with their last trip being 17 years ago to Egypt. Cletus' passing, his final journey, can certainly be described as the "Best Trip Ever."
A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 8, 2024, at 12:00PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Andy Proctor officiating.
