Cleo Clark Hutchens

Cleo Clark Hutchens, 85, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday July 4, 2024.

She was born on February 6, 1939 to James Gudger and Mattie Lee Clark in Lexington, NC. She was married to the love of her life, Billy Ray Hutchens, for 51 years. Cleo was a homemaker and devoted her life to the care of her family. For much of her life, she was an active member of Northwoods Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, served on the hospitality committee, worked in the nursery, and volunteered her time assisting with the youth group and vacation Bible school. Later in life, she became a beloved member of Enon Baptist Church where she made many lasting friendships.

Cleo was a force. She was feisty, funny, and mischievous, always ready to speak her mind with a witty remark or a playful joke. She loved the best things in life – chocolate, naps, and babies. Her cooking was legendary, and many a neighbor or friend was known to request cans of her homemade soups, beans, or pickles for holiday gifts.

Her friends and family will always remember her for her unfailing kindness, her delicious homemade meals, and her ability to truly make everyone, regardless of background, feel welcome and loved.

Cleo is survived by her daughter, Sandra Hutchens; her son (in-law) Todd Harmon (Meleah); brother Herbert Clark; her grandchildren, Katie Ervin (Justin), Amanda Mason (Nick), and Clark Harmon; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, nine of her siblings, and her daughter, Tracy Harmon.

A funeral will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at Enon Baptist Church. The visitation will be held from 2:00pm to 3:00pm before the service.

Memorial gifts may be made to Trellis Supportive Care (Hospice).
