WINSTON SALEM - Mr. Clay Vernon ""C.V."" Clinard, age 90, devoted husband, father and grandfather, went to be with his Lord Friday, October 10, 2014 at Oak Forest Nursing and Rehab. Vernon was born in Guilford County on July 30, 1924 to Lawrence Vernon and Ola Jane Cagle Clinard. Vernon was a WWII Veteran of the US Navy and was a member of Kernersville VFW Post 5352. He was a member of Kerwin Baptist Church and owner / operator of Clinard Roofing.
In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by his son, Tommy Lee Clinard; and two brothers, William and Eugene Clinard.
Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Alice Pauline Tilley Clinard; four daughters, Carol Parrish (Calvin) of Kernersville, Susan Hemrick (Preston) of Kernersville , Brenda ""Bobo"" Bowden (Richard) of Kernersville and Teresa Newsome (Frank Sr.) of Walkertown; two sons, Robert Clinard (Pam) of Kernersville and James Clinard (Kim) of Stokesdale; daughter-in-law, Jean Clinard of Kernersville; two brothers, Bobby Clinard (Linnie) and Weldon Clinard (Jenette) both of Kernersville; two sisters, Joann Clinard of Kernersville and Linda Gray (Herb) of Colfax; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Tilley of Kernersville; 24 grandchildren; a number of great and great-great grandchildren; a daughter - raised as his own, Kimberly Lawson-Mashburn, Brittany Lawson and Hunter Mashburn.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Kerwin Baptist Church with Dr. Joe Myers and Rev. Daniel Hawtree officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory with military honors. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 13, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel.
