Claude Wallace Blake, Jr.

Mr. Claude Wallace Blake, Jr., 90, of Winston-Salem, passed away on January 30, 2011 at Brighton Gardens. Wally, as he was referred to by his friends, was born on July 18, 1920 in Denver, CO to the late Claude Wallace Blake, Sr. and wife Irene Jackson Blake. Wally graduated from Denver University in 1940 with a BS degree in chemistry. That same year he began his 44 year career with Western Electric Company. During his time with Western Electric he was given several assignments requiring the family to move up and down the eastern coast. In 1952 he was assigned to a defense project that moved the family to Winston-Salem. After 10 years in Winston-Salem he was transferred to the corporate headquarters in New York City to become Assistant Manager in Patent and Licensing. In 1976 he was transferred to the Guilford Center as Manager in the same department. In 1984 Wally retired as a Director of Patent and Licensing. Preceding him in death along with his parents was his wife, Jane Walters Blake. Surviving Mr. Blake are his sons, Stephen C. Blake of Winston-Salem, Dr. Daniel J. Blake and wife Elaine of Asheville; four grandchildren, Leslie Ehemann (Patrick) of Richmond, VA, Nancy Clark (Ben) of San Antonio, TX, Geneieve Tung (Will) of Brooklyn, NY, Jane Louise Blake of Austin, TX; and four great grandchildren.
