Clarence Edward Morrison

Kernersville- Clarence Edward Morrison, born March 17, 1930 in Dayton, OH, son of the late Robert and Nora Asbury Morrison, preceded in death in addition to his parents one daughter Laurie Ann Locher, one grandson Christopher Tooley. Survived by wife, Marjorie Ruth Morrison; six children: sons; Robert C. Morrison, David E. Morrison: daughters; Linda Ruth Morrison, Rebecca Lynn Morrison, Darlynn Sue Nichols; daughter in-law, Judi Lynn Morrison, Sons in-law; Brent R. Locher and Edward A. Nichols; nine grandchildren; Ronald Phillips, John Nichols, Isaac Locher, Joshua Nichols, Joseph Nichols, April Locher, Sally Locher, Micah Morrison. Prior to his college years he was in the Navy Reserves. He was a 1954 graduate of Bob Jones University with a BA in Practical Christian Training. He was a past member and Vice President of Civitan International, National Religious Broadcasters, Christian Businessmen's Committee International, and the International Union of Gospel Missions. He spent his early years, first as a staff member of the Goodwill Home and Rescue Mission in Newark, NJ then as superintendant of two rescue missions; one in Morristown,NJ and one in Dayton, OH; then the remaining years of full time Christian service managing four Christian radio stations; WFCJ in Dayton, OH (Miamisburg), WMHR in Syracuse, NY, WIVE in Ashland, VA (outside of Richmond) and WHPE in High Point, NC (Bible Broadcasting Network). Finally, he worked for Prudential Life Insurance and then Syngenta (Formerly Ciba Geigy) as a security officer, retiring in 1993. Clarence has been very committed all of his adult life to serving the Lord. His faith was simple and solid. He could be trusted. He was always early. His ministries included teaching adult Sunday school classes, narrating several Christmas cantatas and reading the scripture each Sunday morning from the platform. His beautiful, resonant voice was a blessing and a comfort to many, especially during his years in radio. He preached as a representative of the Christian Business Men's Committee as well as the various missions and radio stations at which he served. He mentored many who were recent converts, meeting with them each week to give them a foundation in Biblical teaching and doctrine. He was faithful witness wherever he went, although very low key and kind in his approach. He was a Deacon and then Chairman of the Deacons at Triad Baptist Church, Chairman of the Men's Fellowship, and went out with his wife, Marge, every week to visit those who had first visited Triad. This continued for about 20 years until he could no longer walk. He and his wife also did hospital visitation going from room to room and bringing a witness and word of encouragement to strangers who had no one visiting them at the time. Most probably remember him as being one of the first to greet them at church and make them feel welcome. He was everybody's friend, but most of all, he was a friend of God. How we shall miss his radiant smile, his kindness, and easy-to-please personality! Many will remember his great sense of humor. Even during the last few months of his illness, when asked how he felt, he would say ""with my fingers."" God orders our steps, and so His timing is always perfect. We accept His will as perfect. Our great loss is Heaven's wonderful gain. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday June 23, 2009 at Triad Baptist Church with Rev. Robert G. Decker officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Gur Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made to Triad Baptist Church, 4830 Kernersville Rd, Kernersville, NC 27284 or Kate B.
