Clarence Red N. Hennings

Mr. Clarence ""Red"" N. Hennings, 88, of Clemmons passed away Monday, January 11, 2010 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Hennings was born in East Bend, NC on August 8, 1921 to the late William Joseph and Ina Norman Hennings. Mr. Hennings was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1943 - 1945 serving in World War II. He retired from Hennings U-Save Auto Rental in Winston-Salem, NC. In his spare time, he enjoyed his memberships in the Clemmons Masonic Lodge #755, where he served as a 50 year member and a 32 degree Mason Past Master, and the Shriner's Oasis Temple, Scottish Rites. He was a longtime member of Harmony Grove United Methodist Church. Mr. Hennings was preceded in death by his first wife, Pauline ""Polly"" Redding Hennings; his brother Hoover Hennings, and sister Marjorie ""Margie"" Green. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Staley Matlock Hennings of the home; two daughters, Janice H. Craig (Bill) of Charlotte and Connie A. Michael (Jim) of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Amy Russell (Chip), Brad Craig (Karen), Chris Craig (Cindy), and Karen Runyon -Cole; great-grandchildren, Lea, Jason, Connor and Casey Craig, and Keegan Russell; stepchildren Don Matlock (Joyce), Libby Throckmorton, and Tammie Utt (Tim) and their children; four nephews; and two nieces. A funeral service will be conducted 1:00 pm Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel with the Rev. Les Puryear and Rev. Richard Hicks officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607 or Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
