Mr. Clarence ""Leo"" Harrell, 85, passed away Monday, October 3, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born September 19, 1926 in Surry County to Willie Clarence Harrell and Effie Sechrist Harrell. He married Marie Cobbler Harrell on November 23, 1945. He retired from Sara Lee Knit Products in 1989 with 46 years of service. In 1969 he joined the Lewisville Civic Club and was an active member for the next 20 years. He worked tirelessly on the activities the club sponsored for the community, including the building of the current Civic Club facility. Mr. Harrell was designated the Civic Club's ""Citizen of the Year"" twice and in 1989 received the ""Citizen of the Decade Award"" (the first time it had been given). He was a faithful member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church for 62 years. During this time he held positions of Music Director, Youth Director, Sunday School Superintendant, Church Board Member, Sunday School teacher and District Youth Director for the Winston-Salem District for two years. His devotion to the Lord and passion for his church was upper most in his life followed by his love for family and friends. He received great joy in his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be missed, but he leaves a legacy of love and devotion that will sustain those that knew and loved him throughout their lives. Mr. Harrell was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Ruth Gibson and Virginia Hodges and two brothers, T.W. Harrell and Clifton Harrell. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Marie Cobbler Harrell of the home; a daughter, Patricia Rierson (David); two sons, Doug Harrell (Carol) and David Harrell (Kathy); four grandchildren; six great grandchildren and a brother, Lester Harrell of Wisconsin. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Tim Wolfe and Rev. Joel K. Boyles officiating. Entombment will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
