Clarence Edward Sarge" Derrah

KERNERSVILLE-Clarence Edward ""Sarge"" Derrah, 79, a loving husband, father and grandfather; and affectionately known as ""Sarge"" passed away Sunday, May 24, 2009 at his home. He was born September 24, 1929 in Cumberland Co., Maine to the late George Thomas and Madline Taylor Derrah. Mr. Derrah was a member of First Baptist Church in Kernersville. He was a United States Marine Corp Vietnam Veteran and he retired from the Marine Corp after 30 years of serving his country. After his military career he worked for Central Carolina Grocery as a computer operator for 26 years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip Derrah. Surviving are his wife of 59 ½ years, Katherine Morphies Derrah of the home; one son, Eddie Derrah and wife Sandy of Kernersville; one daughter, Cathy McGee and husband Danny of Winston Salem; two granddaughters, Jennifer Weavil and husband Shane and Becky Hutchens; one sister, Marjorie Hebert and husband Bobby of Portland, Maine. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors and staff at Forsyth Medical Center West Unit 6th Floor Cardiac Care and Hospice Palliative CareCenter for all the love and care that was given to Sarge during this time.
