C. Edward Culler passed away peacefully as Thanksgiving Day dawned on Thursday, November 27, 2008. He was surrounded by his loving family during his final hours at the Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. He was born in Forsyth County to Joseph C. Culler and Sallie Butner Culler on October 30, 1921. At a very early age, he was smitten with flying and joined Piedmont Aviation. He retired as Vice President of Aircraft Services at Piedmont Aviation after devoting forty-six years. In the words of former Piedmont Airlines President, Tom Davis he was one of the original ""shining stars"". Many of the Culler family followed in the aviation industry, including his now deceased brother Joe. Ed also served as a liaison pilot in the Army Air Corps during WWII, and was a longtime member of the family at Mineral Springs Baptist Church of Winston-Salem. In addition to his parents and brother, Ed was preceded in death by a sister La Rue Merritt. Ed is survived by his loving wife and caregiver of sixty-six years, Rose Elizabeth ""Lib"" Hayes Culler. Five children: Jill (Don) Ferguson, Danny (Joyce) Culler, Rick Culler, Jan (Roger) Hancock, and Susan Culbertson. Seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Three sisters: Dorothy Knight, Coleen Sanders and Theresa Ramsey. Funeral services for Ed will be held Monday afternoon, December 1, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Chapel in Rural Hall. Dr. Cecil Cave will officiate. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday afternoon from 12:30 P.M. until time for the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mineral Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 3733 Ogburn Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27105
