Clarence Edward 'Jug' Conner

Mr. Clarence E. ""Jug"" Conner, 89, passed away Friday morning, July 6, 2012 at his home with his loving wife and family by his side. He was born in the Ashe Co. community of Todd on January 3, 1923 the son of the late Claude M. Conner and Ruth Graham Conner. Jug served his country proudly in the United States army during WWII. He was a faithful Sunday School teacher for over 40 years and a member of Freedom Baptist Church in Rural Hall. Jug retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 42 years of service. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Lori Pharr, four sisters, Muncie Houck, Ann Soloman, Zola Sapp and Ethel Harper and two brothers, Lawrence Conner and Graham Conner. Jug is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Geraldine ""Gerry"" Wood Conner of the home, two daughters, Carol Franklin and Janice Fulp and husband Royce both of King, five grandchildren, Rev. Todd Lusk (Alison), Jason Lusk, Julie Gammons (Travis), Krista Cook (Greg) and Jarred Franklin, six great-grandchildren, two sisters, Agnes Miller and Billie Ridings (Troy) both of Clemmons, one brother, Clyde Conner (Dora) of Garner and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Funeral services for Jug will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2012 at Freedom Baptist Church in Rural Hall with Rev. Jon White, Rev. Todd Lusk and Rev. Dennis Conner officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 this evening, July 8, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to: Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Oak Forest Health and Rehabilitation, the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care and the many friends and family who showed their love and support in Jug's time of need.
