Mr. Clarence Ray Bumgarner, 62, of Winston-Salem, passed away Friday, September 18, 2009 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after a long and debilitating disease. He was born October 26, 1946 in Grants Pass, Oregon to Paul R. and Mary Helen Camp Bumgarner. Mr. Bumgarner graduated from Wilkes Central High School and Wilkes Community College. He was a Vietnam veteran serving in the United States Air Force. He was preceded in death by his mother. Surviving are his wife of the home, Mrs. Linda Cass Bumgarner; his children, David Ray Bumgarner, Cristal L. Shreve and Jonathan Paul Bumgarner (Beth); four grandchildren, Kasie L. Marrufo (Abraham), Leslie E. Shreve, Melanie L. Shreve and Sterlyn Ray Bumgarner; two brothers, Paul L. Bumgarner (Dianne) and William ""Bill"" James Bumgarner (Jennifer); a special cousin, James Bumgarner and numerous cousins and aunts. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 501 W. 5th St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
