Mr. Clarence John Allen, 92, passed away Friday, October 30, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born in Shoals on July 18, 1923 the son of the late John Augustus Allen and Carrie Dezarn Allen. Clarence retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 36 years of service and was a longtime active member of the Shoals Ruritan Club, as long as his health permitted. He was a member of Pilot View United Methodist Church for 80 years and loved his church deeply. Clarence served as the Chairman of Administrative Council, Trustee and Sunday School Teacher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister; Mae Allen Croft and four brothers; Luke Allen, James Allen, Henry Allen and Paul Allen.
Clarence is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Gertrude M. Allen of the home, four sisters; Maude Creed of Mt. Airy, Blanche Falkenberry of Winston-Salem, Lucy Still of Charlotte and Nancy Hunt (John) of Pinnacle, four brothers; Frank Allen (Mae) of Charlotte, Fred Allen of Gastonia, Roy Allen of High Point and Lonnie Allen (Frances) of Pinnacle, a brother-in-law; Walter Croft of Aiken, SC and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 1, 2015 at Pilot View United Methodist Church in Shoals with Rev. Jack Lutz, Rev. David Raiford and Rev. Carolyn Burrus officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 prior to the service at the church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ruby and Janet for all of the love and care they have shown to Clarence in the past few years, also an extra special thank you to Teresa and Joel for all that you do and have done.
