Mrs. Clara Elizabeth Bottoms Hutchens, 80, passed away Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Lexington Health Care Center in Lexington. She was born July 1, 1930 in Surry County to the late Isaac Lee Bottoms and Mary Elizabeth Pell Bottoms. Mrs. Hutchens was a member Friends Union Quaker Church in Pinnacle. She retired from A&P Grocery Store and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. Mrs. Hutchens was a fan of Johnny Cash, Braves Baseball and Richard Petty Racing. Of all her interests her family was the most important thing in her life and she never failed to prove it by always being a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Wilson Hutchens, a daughter, Ann Shoemaker, three sisters, Joy Bottoms, Thelma Bottoms and Ola Hawks and five brothers, Otis Bottoms, Claude Bottoms, Everette ""Doc"" Bottoms, Hurley ""Golden"" Bottoms and Clinton Bottoms. Mrs. Hutchens is survived by two daughters, Daune Lawson (B.J.) of King and Marlene Riggan of Winston-Salem, 9 grandchildren, Stacy Lawson, Ashlee Lawson, Beth Gilliland (Jason-Deceased), Kelly Hall (Jennifer), David Bowen (Paula), Chuck Bowen (Christa), Pam Bowen, Dustin Riggan and Meredith Riggan, 12 great-grandchildren, Catherine, Caitlin, Logan, Ragan, Kenidi, Tyler, Trevor, Tucker, Dylan, Lillian, Phillip and Jesse, one sister, Pat Newsom (Frank) of Yadkinville, one brother, Ray Bottoms (Janet) of Winston-Salem and several nieces, nephews and extended family. Funeral services for Mrs. Hutchens will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Chapel in Rural Hall with Rev. Darryl Fulp officiating. Entombment will follow in Crestview Memorial Park Mausoleum in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice
