Clara Godfrey

Mrs. Clara Cecil Harris Godfrey, 87, of Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.

Clara was born September 17, 1931 in Giles Co., VA to Joseph and Willie Harris.  She was a member of Way of the Cross Ministries and loved to attend church.  She enjoyed keeping children in her home while her own children were small and continued to do so until her children graduated high school.  She worked at Royal Cake Bakery as a supervisor and then went to Sara Lee Knit products on Stratford Road.  She also loved to garden.  In addition to her parents, Clara was preceded in death by 8 brothers and sisters.

Clara is survived by her loving husband, Lawrence Godfrey; children, Calvin Godfrey (Kathie), Alice Dunaway (Mike), Brenda Allen (Glen), Mark Godfrey (Angela), and Phyllis Deloucas (Carlos); 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Hudson; and brother, Elwood Harris (Christine).

A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 2 pm at Way of the Cross Ministries with Pastor Mark Godfrey and Rev. Sharon Thompson officiating.  Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory – Walkertown.  The family will receive friends Friday, January 11, 2019 from 6 – 8 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
