Christopher Reid McCarter

Christopher Reid McCarter, 53, of High Point, N.C., passed away unexpectedly at home on June 23, 2023.  He was born in Winston-Salem, N.C. to Herman Lewis McCarter and Elsie Edwards McCarter.  Chris was a graduate of East Forsyth Senior High School in Kernersville.  He followed in his father’s footsteps to Clemson University and graduated with a B.S. in Economics.  Chris retired from Graybar.

Chris was a longtime member of the athletic fundraiser IPTAY at Clemson.  He will be remembered for his lifelong devotion to, and support of, Clemson football.  Some of his most treasured memories were of attending Clemson home games with his daughter, Raigan, and his friend, Joel Hodges.  Chris was also a member of the Greensboro Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees) and spent many happy hours working at the Greater Greensboro Open PGA Tournament.  He enjoyed exploring his Scottish heritage at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. Chris served as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Kernersville for several years and attended there most of his life.

Chris is survived by his beloved daughter, Raigan T. McCarter, Charlotte, and his sisters, Sonja M. Matson, Scottsdale, AZ, and Lori M. Stafford (Jerry), Greensboro.  He was also an uncle to six nieces and nephews: Andrew Matson (Nicole) and Hillary Matson, Los Angeles, CA, Austin Matson, Chandler, AZ, Garrison Stafford (Brianna), Greensboro, Grace Stafford (Adam Davis), Durham, and Samuel Stafford, Greensboro.  Chris is also survived by his great nephew, Owen Stafford, Greensboro.  He is also survived by his former wives, Christie Campbell, and Denise Huey.

Chris was predeceased by his parents as well as his grandparents, Samuel Jones McCarter and Ola Price McCarter (Tryon, NC), and French DeVon Edwards and Frostie Hilburn Edwards (Fair Bluff, NC).

Chris treasured his lifelong friendships with Joel Hodges and Blair Osborne.  He will be remembered for his friendliness, ability to talk with anyone and his joyful pleasure in the accomplishments of his only child, Raigan.  Chris’s love for Raigan will transcend his passage to heaven.  Raigan was truly his pride and joy; cherished beyond measure.

A memorial service will be held at 11am Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Rev. Francis Smith officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm Friday, July 14, 2023 at the funeral home.
