Chris Hooper, Jr.

Chris F. Hooper, Jr., 84, of North Davidson County, passed away February 12, 2022 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.  Chris is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janet; his sister, Geraldine Hooper (Mabel Robinson); two sons, Scott Hooper (Jack Moriarity) and Jeff Hooper; two daughters, Robin Hurdle (Scott) and Kim Woodruff (Guy); six grandchildren, Tamara Hill, Heather Hooper, Corey Hurdle, Brandon Hurdle, Zoe Crotts (Cameron) and Mia Woodruff; three great-grandchildren, Colton and Carson Davis and Atlas Crotts.  Chris was born in Winston-Salem on September 28, 1937 to Chris and Maude Hooper.  He married the love of his life, Janet Holcomb on September 3, 1959.  Prior to his marriage he joined the United States Navy and served on the USS Lowery three years active.  He continued his education at Rowan Tech in Salisbury earning a degree in Fire and Safety Engineering Technology and a degree in Fire Science Technology.  He began his career at Guilford College Fire Department before moving to his job with the state as regional area coordinator in Fire and Rescue training through the Community College system.  He was honored this past October with a scholarship in his name by the Piedmont NC Firefighters Association for the continuing education of firefighters.  He retired from the United States Navy reserves in 1997 after 42 years between active and reserve duty, as a Chief Operations Specialist.  The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 PM on Monday, February 21, 2022 at Pinedale Christian Church, 3395 Peters Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC.  His funeral service will follow the visitation at 1:00 PM and then proceed to a military graveside service at Forsyth Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd. Staten Island, NY 10306.
